10,000 students and the Oregon Promise

As you read this, more than 10,000 students are enrolled in community college classes under the Oregon Promise. The Oregon Promise offers two years of Community College tuition to recent Oregon high school graduates or GED test graduates.

Nearly a third of the students that go through the Oregon Promise program are the first in their family to attend college. The vast majority of them state they would not likely be in college if it wasn’t for the Oregon Promise.

That’s why I’m proud to unveil a video done by some of those students and produced by students in film study classes. It’s not what the political consultants would produce. Maybe that’s why I like it.

This video makes my heart swell. I’m proud to have played a key role in helping ensure the Oregon Promise created pathways for low-income families to achieving higher education and opens doors to a world of possibilities.

These students say they’ve been inspired by what they’re learning in school.

I’m inspired by them.

I’m inspired to lead a campaign that promises Oregon all of our kids can achieve the American Dream.

Restoring Excellence to Oregon's Schools

I first run for public office to reverse the trend of underinvestment in education in Oregon. Today, change is in the air for Oregon schools after the passage of the Student Success Act in 2019.

The Oregon Promise: A Lifeline to Rural Oregon

The Oregon Promise brought tuition-free community college to all Oregon students, passing in a rare moment of consensus. From Gold Beach to Pendleton and Portland, the effects are already apparent.
